Course Conditions - Nuneaton Golf ClubGeneral Course ConditionsGreen Keepers Report August 2010 Starting with the greens, they received an application of liquid fertiliser and seaweed, Shortly followed by pencil tining to a depth of approximately 4 inches, this was done by a contractor with a new machine to the market and causes little disturbance to the putting surface summer aeration is a nightmare for greens keepers as most practices do cause level disturbance making us very unpopular. Root development has been increased due to this practice and I would like to use this machine through out the next playing season. The greens have been under a lot of stress over the last couple of months with the drought and now very heavy bursts of rain plus the pressure to produce quality playing surfaces for every tournament and society that visits Nuneaton Golf Club. The greens are being to thin out, they have been sarel rolled and over seeded and I believe are recovering but are in need of more work ie, hollow tining which I would like to carry out on the 6th of September weather permitted. In the mean time cutting heights will be increased to relieve the stress unfortunately this will result in slightly slower green speeds. Some of the new tees have also been affected from the dry period we had in June and first half of July. This is due to several reasons, cost of water, more aeration need for better root growth and drainage. I am confident that with more aeration and over seeding and a little more Nitrogen things will improve. (all of which involves time and money) The 7th tee is a great example and is now looking good. More general things such as hedge cutting, strimming and mowing plus tournament prep have been taking up most of our time but we have manage to construct a new set of steps at the eight tee. Rain fall for July totals 45.5 mm August 30 mm so far. James Mannion Head Green keeper Showing: 18
