Head Green Keepers report October 2011 Starting with the greens which have been hollow tined, top dressed, over seeded with a pure bent grass and an application of a soil conditioner. The whole process took two extra days this year due to coring extremely well, the amount of dressing needed to fill the holes approximately 45 tons of material and unfortunately a few machinery breakdowns. But the results have left us with rejuvenated greens looking very healthy, building a foundation for next years playing season, thank you for your patience during this operation. Along with the hollowing tining of the greens we have also been coring the collars and approaches topdressing, overseeing and fertilising. Verticutting of fairways to remove dead material from the sward and stimulate new growth. Along with an application of fertiliser and of course much needed rain fall should thicken up nicely. The fairways will also be hollow tined this month to further remove old material and allow air and oxygen to the soil and roots, vertidraining will take place when conditions improve at the moment the ground is like concrete much rain is needed before this operation can take place. Clearance of bramble around pond at first tee, pond will be enlarged slightly and hedge removed along side the tee. The area will be seeded and cut and semi rough height.
